Agriculture
Agriculture is the primary driver
of economy in Arunachal Pradesh. Crops grown here include rice, maize,
millet, wheat, pulses, sugarcane, ginger and oilseeds. Arunachal Pradesh
is also ideal for horticulture and fruit orchards. Fruits
viz. pine apple, oranges, lemon, lichi, papaya, banana and peach
walnut, almond etc are grown in the state in scanty. Shifting
cultivation which is locally called as Jhum was practiced by most of the
tribes but is now less practiced. With application of fertilizers and pesticides and use of high yielding varieties, the production of crops have increased significantly.
Forest products are the next most significant sector of the economy of the state.
Industry
Arunachal
Pradesh has several small and medium scale industries based on forest
products. The industries include plywood, rice mills, fruit preservation units and handicrafts.
The state has its own mineral development and trading corporation which looks
after the fair transportation and exploration of various minerals. The
Corporation also gives an industrial shape to its mineral products.
