Tirap district is situated towards the south of Myanmar, bounded by Dibrugarh District of Assam in the North Tirap in the East and Sibsagar District of Assam and Mon District of Nagaland in the West. The administrative seat is located at Khonsa town.
The District derives its name from the river Tirap which originates in the district and flows through Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh. The entire district is covered with high hills and deep forests. You can hardly find any plain areas. The district is very difficult to access.

How to reach
Air : One can come to Mohanbari/Dibrugarh from Guwahati by air. Then from Dibrugarh daily taxi/bus services is available towards Khonsa.
Rail : There is no direct rail link to Tirap. The nearest railway stations are located at Dibrugarh/Tinsukia/ Naharkatia (Assam). From these places, daily bus/taxi service is available to the district headquarter, Khonsa.
Road : APSTC buses and private buses are available from Tinsukia/Dibrugarh towards Khonsa.
